1997 promises to be a great year for the Goosen Showjumping team. Having finished off 1996 with wins at Olympia and Mechelen, the Team are confident that they will continue their success in 1997. The team of horses are in great form and with Guy in winning mood! For the months of January and February, when there is not much international competition, our horses will enjoy a well earned rest and change of routine. They have all finished the year really sound and well. It is fantastic to have Electrik and Tinto back to work after their time off during 1996. Sagrat and Carat have made good progress during 1996, with valuable contributions to the Nations Cup Team. These horses must surely have a bright future. We appreciate all the help that we have received during 1996. In particular, Guy would like to say a big thank you to Sarah and Tommy Gallagher who bought Sagrat for him to ride. Sagrat and Guy have had the most fantastic year together, with 5 wins in puissance, a great Derby debut (equal second) and a whole list of other successes. |
The Gallagher family are wonderful supporters and their presence at the shows makes the occasion more enjoyable for all of us. Mandy Goosen also finished the year on top form at the Frankfurt show, where she was well placed on a Paul Schockemohle horse. Mandy visited Olympia and spent some days at home during Christmas and has now resumed to the Paul Schockemohle yard in Germany. Guy s first show in the new year will be in Cairo where he will ride horses supplied by the Egyptian Police. The show is at the Cairo Movenpick Hotel, Heliopolis 4-14 January. B.B. wins Nations Cup series 1996The riders that made up our Nations Cup squad were honoured at Olympia, where they were presented with a mounted silver plaque in recognition of their efforts. Guy Goosen was included in our Nations Cup Team on four occasions during 1996 - at the Lisbon CSIO in Portugal riding Carat, the Gijon CSIO in Spain riding Sagrat, at the Linz CSIO in Austria riding Sagrat and at the Mechelen CSIO in Belgium riding Electrik. Guy had a superb record of achievements in Nations Cup events when he was in ponies and young riders, going right back to 12.2hh pondies in the home internationals when he was only 10 years old. This means that he has had 12 years of useful apprenticeship which should stand him in good stead. Guy has set his mind on getting into the Championship teams of the future and hopes to help bring some medals home once again. This is a realistic ambition- ,since he was included in the long list for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. |
